On Wednesday, May 18, Massachusetts First Lady Lauren Baker joined Head Start’s 52nd birthday celebration at The Dimock Center’s Child and Family Services’ Head Start program in Roxbury, MA. Her participation was one of the 1,400 community reading days organized across the country with the support of Scholastic, who generously donated 80,000 books to the hosting programs. The First Lady toured the Dimock Center’s Head Start to learn more about how the program is supporting the community’s most vulnerable children and their families. She also read to the children and was joined by Clifford the Big Red Dog for the festivities.
“I am proud to join The Dimock Center Head Start to celebrate their role in ensuring children in Roxbury have an opportunity to learn, read and receive a great education,” said First Lady Lauren Baker. “Access to quality resources and early literacy are important to the success of Massachusetts’ next generation.”
Thank you Mrs. Baker and to our community partners, who also joined us for Community Reading Day. The time you generously gave to read to the children in our programs is invaluable.
